Richie is HW+ and needs treatment. Heartworm treatment is $1000-$3000 thousand dollar treatment.
Riche is all kinds of personality! He loves attention, contact with people and more importantly, chasing anything smaller than him. It's clear that his prey drive was a big part of his previous life. He is recovering from muscle atrophy, which adds to this guy's goofiness. He has no trouble walking or running and can move quite fast.
He gets along with his foster sister, but doesn't quite know how to communicate with other dogs well. He has the best of intentions, but the language he uses will quickly upset any dog, including his foster sister. He has an interest in playing with other dogs, but is still working on not escalating the activity.
His communication with humans is something quite unique. He will notify if he needs to go outside, and really likes to relax in the sun. He's self sufficient and will put himself in the kennel from time to time, but really enjoys company. He likes to curl up and rest near feet or nap while touching a person. Head pats are the best! He loves to let everyone know how much he loves petting, usually with burrowing into your hand and turning around to repeat the hand pat. He's very smart and loves routine. Training will continue as he is rebuilding his strength.
He is a fantastic protector of his family, and quite vocal at times. He has made improvement in his alerting, and does not bark for long once he's been assured that everything is fine. Richie is absolutely a joy to interact with every day and it's great to see the attention and love returned.
Richie was found wandering the streets of a suburb of Dallas and taken in by the wonderful shelter staff. It was discovered that he was heartworm positive along with needing some much needed TLC so they reached out to us. He is a big bouncy boy with a lot of energy with a great bubbly personality.
He has a high prey drive so no kitties, plays very rough so needs a dog that can easily handle it and would easily knock over little kids, so school age and above would be best for him!
Stay tuned as he settles into his foster home and gets started on his heartworm treatment.
